re: #308 Chekote
For God’s sake, we put a man on the moon but can’t get accurate crowd counts?!
We already did. The DC Fire Department estimated 50k - 70k. I see no reason at all to doubt them. None of the other estimates I’ve seen come from anyone with any experience in performing such estimates, and all are holding considerable axes to grind.
DC police and the NPS, I’m told, withhold their estimates from the public at least for a while, to derail the the “YOU LYING FUCKERS ARE WRONG, YOU LYING FUCKERS!!!” response official estimates so often elicit. They still perform them, however, and are extremely good at it, especially in DC where crowd estimating needs to be done both accurately and often.
