That’s what makes me laugh at such a “defense” as the one Greenwald is offering. Hastert was being blackmailed and could have told the FBI that when they inquired as to why he was withdrawing so much money from his account. But either his pride or his political future would not allow him to admit such, likely out of fear that the matter would go to trial and his past sin made public knowledge.
