I grew up in Indiana, which is weak sauce compared to living here. My folks were complaining bitterly about Christmas week we spent down there, where they had temperatures fall below 0 overnight and barely climb above 0 during the day. I looked at them like, we have this happen every fucking year in January, what are you pansies whining about?

Minnesota gets pretty cold. It tends to battle it out with Petosky, Michigan for coldest day.

The folk over on the East Coast were complaining a couple days ago how cold it was, but it was nothing like it was here in the corn belt.

Last year when my wife and I were in Sacramento, there was a deep freeze here I saw reported on the weather in California. I told my wife I’ll bet our pipes froze.

We arrived home on Christmas Eve to a basement with three feet of water in it from burst pipes, and trying to get someone to our house in the middle of the night to shut off our water at the meter. (I wasn’t the water operator then; now I have access to water meter and fire hydrant wrenches.)
