And I think that at the heart of it is why the Never Trumpers don’t like Trump. They feel he’s exposed their ideology or there lack of as you put it for what it really is. It’s just a bunch of overly emotionally assholes who can’t accept a changing world who think they’re the heirs of the Founders when the actual Founders would laugh at their inability to seriously think about issues.

Absolutely.

There’s a patrician version of the intellectual cowardice and libertine spirit that defines Trumpism and most of the Never Trumpers rent space there.

The suggestions that the jet-setters who say pretty, sophist things garnished with classical references are the same as the proles who say ugly, wildly emotional shit offends the Never Trumpers…and yet it’s still true.

Same thing again with the ultra-rich. They don’t want to be told they don’t know everything, that their success probably came down to (1) preexisting wealth, (2) market conditions, and that their success at one thing does not translate to a knowledge of anything else.

All these groups perform some version of “be nice or we will fuck you up” if you press them, because they all have the same drives.
