Unfortunately I think the political middle is going to get tired of a series of Democratic Party POTUS and vote in a GOPer simply out of force of habit in changing the Presidency from one party to the other periodically.

I think the nation’s demographics have changed too much for that to be true. The President won only 39% of the white vote and still won the election easily. Whites will be an even smaller share of the electorate in 2016 than in 2012, which means that the Democratic nominee’s (probably Hillary) share of the white vote would have to shrink to about 36% for the Republican to even have a chance. The GOP is doing everything it can to continue to alienate minority voters, from killing immigration reform to condemning outreach to African-American voters as “cheating.” I don’t see Hillary getting an even smaller share of the white vote than Obama did, so where will the votes come from to elect a Republican President?
