Does anyone have a good theory on how to make a kook movement disappear? I know that in real science, while we all try to believe that rational people change their minds when a better theory comes around; what really happens is the adherents to the old theory never change they just just become dessicated old professors railing away and slowly losing grad students until they die and are not replaced. In most cases, kook movements are fed by publicity and die when the publicity goes away. I, for one, believe that comedy does a great job at killing kook movements by mocking them into marginality.
