In case the Dems implode, we should want someone sort of sane like Romney or Huntsman in your slot, but that just shows how the definition of ‘sane’ has…matured.

It’s not a matter of imploding, it’s pure numbers. They have a lot more senate seats open plus a few retirements which points to a decent size loss. The house will stay repub and thanks to the 2010 elections and redistricting they might even pick up seats. The president is going to have a tough time winning reelection with the economy in the toilet, a Perry nomination would be helpful to his chances.

The worst-case scenario, as I see it, would be the election season ending with republicans holding 60 senate seats, holding the house, and having Wishwashy-Romney as president.
