Not sure why, but I just remembered the 1978 movie Midnight Express. It was about an American that got tossed into a Turkish prison for selling drugs.

I remember how that movie made Turkey so strange and scary. How different the country is seen almost 40 years later.

I think it won an Oscar or two.
