Why should it be reserved? Marriage is permitted by civil authorities not religious.

I think a great deal of the opposition to it comes from a failure to understand that point, and also the mistaken idea that allowing gay marriage will force churches to marry gay couples or recognise gay marraiges— which again, would not happen.

Religions and churches will remain free as they always have been to set such conditions as they desire on what they consider a marriage. Just as the Catholic Church can’t be forced by law to marry a divorced person, or recognise as valid marriages in any protestant faith, so too will they (and all other religions) remain free to refuse to recognise or perform same sex marriages.
