Oh, I know.

I had the chance, in undergrad, to take a seminar on Israeli-Palestinian relations with a wonderful professor who had actually been attached to some of the diplomatic stuff, had met Yasser Arafat, etc., etc.

It did not make me terribly optimistic for a resolution anytime soon. But it certainly drove home a HUGE number of the issues. (I can talk with at least some knowledge about water right conflicts, for example.)

I’ll confess to a fair bit of ignorance about the state of affairs in the Middle East.

Despite that my feeling is that what’s happening there is an ancient problem that humans get themselves into time and again. That problem is that there are too many, on all sides of the conflict, who do not want peace. They want victory.
