Where do they have tenure? All the teachers I know are on a year to year contract and aren’t in unions. They belong instead to “associations” that don’t have any control over anything regarding benefits or salaries. The situation is even less stable for special education or “extras” teachers (art, music, PE, etc) whose jobs can disappear with any new budget. It’s been that way in many parts of the country for quite awhile now.
