I can’t think of a single reason for the electoral college to continue to exist.

However, getting rid of it by constitutional amendment or making it moot with the National Popular Vote Compact both seem to be impossible.

If the EC didn’t exist, small states like ND and SD would have little to no voting impact. I live in a small Canadian province where up until recently the population has been less than 1,000,000. Every election that doesn’t result in conservative parties being elected we have separatist groups clamoring for a new western country. Up here Ontario, Quebec, Alberta & to a lesser extent, BC control which federal party is in control.

Any province smaller than Manitoba has little input.
