my ex and I were both volunteers and still are…we required it from both our kids…a girl and son two years younger…none of us ever got involved with anything remotely political and this is the rub…there is definately a shade of grey in there

My daughter’s school requires a certain number of volunteer hours each year. I don’t so much mind the requirement, as I mind the fact that there is a “list” of approved volunteer efforts. Which means that many of the types of things we as a family like to volunteer for aren’t “acceptable” for credit. And the volunteering my kid does for the old lady across the street to keep her yard mowed or whatever doesn’t “count”.

THAT bothers me - that they’ve taken the concept of “volunteering” out of the purview of the family’s values, and have substituted their own.
