I’d make the registration yearly. You have to renew a cars reg every year, so why not?
Turn the 2 day class into a week-long seminar one for which one may have to use vacation time/travel and incur hotel expenses?

Could be “x’ amount of classes within a specific time frame, say 2 months. That way someone could do it on nights, weekends or days off. There are plenty of registered ranges all over the country so I doubt there would be any need for travel/ hotels

Well, owning a semi-automatic is a big responsibility. I think an substantial investment in time and effort required in the week long seminar concept would curtail purchases (and increase perceived macho status). Annual re-upping is a bureaucratic mess, I don’t think we want a “department of semi-automatic weapons” similar to a our State DMV’s.

I wouldn’t mind a sign-off by a psychiatrist & psychologist who were moderators of such a seminar. Professionals who had the opportunity to observe and evaluate the candidate over a week long period, out of their home environment.

I’m just trying to offer workable solutions that won’t be feel-good legislation causing years of court battles before they can be implemented.

If the CMP is the last line of defense of this country (perceived militia) then a week long seminar isn’t too much to ask, every 10 years, IMHO.
