I think what this really is is Eddie and his lawyer advertising that he’s in negotiations to return with the hopes that public sentiment will still be in his favor and force a plea bargain with a light sentence. Though what he’d be giving in return, besides carrying his sorry carcass back stateside, I’ve no idea. Perhaps he’s offering to roll on Greenwald as the mastermind behind the theft?

Greenwald’s indictment for aiding and abetting would be a feast of schadenfreude.
