See, this is the thing. We’ve had bad American presidents before. We’ve had foolish American presidents before. We’ve even had criminal American presidents before. But they’ve all had redeeming qualities. They’ve all believed in the value of the American people and the American state, and they’ve all had at least some empathy and some concern for humans that aren’t themselves. Furthermore, they’ve also been men of personal accomplishment (except maybe W), who have demonstrated success in other fields and risen because of that. And even W at least had extensive political experience.

But now, not only do we have a criminal and woeful American president, but also a singularly disgusting and vile human, with no redeeming qualities at all. None. The fact that millions of Americans think that this is normal and even desirable is a stain on this nation that cannot be erased.
