It describes how the sound of a gun going off can trigger an largely instinctive reaction to fire one’s own gun. It’s something you have to carefully train people to avoid, since the instincts involved can’t really be suppressed.

Is that how you get the situations where somebody is shot by a large group of cops, something like 45 times. After the first shot, adrenaline, reflex, self preservation kicks in? I could easily see how that could be the case.
