When my grandmother died we had some laughs at her funeral.

She had been a good mother and a good woman, and there was nothing left but sweetness and happiness. Well, mourning, but no bitterness or regrets.

The funniest moment was when my uncle, in his eulogy, meant to say that his mother had been supportive of him in his life. What he said was, “I can’t think of anything I did that my mother didn’t approve of.”

One of my aunts, sitting in the front row, raised her hand.

When Senator Kennedy goes, I hope his children will be as at peace with it as my mother, aunts, and uncle were.
