Here’s what I think of Breaking Bad. Shakespearian in scope.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw the first episode, just a few weeks after it had aired, what, seven years ago now! A friend had saved it on DVR and he showed all his friends (including me) Breaking Bad every chance he could. Because my friend knows good shit when he sees it, and Breaking Bad was something completely different.

I said these two phrases over and over again the first time I saw Breaking Bad: “That’s the dude from Malcolm In The Middle, no fucking way!” and “This is on cable TV that’s not HBO? How’d they do that?” or something to that effect.

Gripping television. The apex of the serial television era.
