Premeditation only requires seconds. It doesn’t require Dexter-like planning.

No but what preplanning did we see at all from Dunn? Nada. Classic sudden violence case. 2nd degree murder would have been a good conviction, but “Dexter like planning” is a straw man. And we should note that charge may still hit him, and even without it he is likely to spend the rest of his life in jail, the highest penalty we would agree the justice system should have.

An example from a very ex employee- Got in a fight, went back (just a couple yards) to his car got a knife and came back. Seconds as you say.

He got convicted for a deadly assault with premeditation. Fortunately the mall security guard he stabbed lived.
