Exactly.
Executive compensation is set by the Board of Directors, and who sits on Boards? Other CEOs. This means you’re evaluating what a job like yours should pay, AND you’re essentially generating the data your own compensation committee will use to decide YOUR salary.
And if that wasn’t enough, there’s a sub-specialty of this racket known as executive compensation consultants (hired by executives). Can’t imagine why their reports always recommend higher executive compensation.
