Even if the GOP was composed entirely of Lindsey Graham and John McCain types and the Democrats were composed of Diane Feinstein and Herb Kohl types, that would not happen. Because even there there is a fundamental disagreement about the size, and on some matters the proper role, of government. A massive governmental-led restructuring would be intolerable to one party or the other, since the two parties will never really agree on these matters. Doing what you are talking about would lead to civil war.

I’m not naive enough to think that will happen. However, I think it will evolve into it’s own restructuring if social evolution is a constant. Evolve or perish. If not it looks to me like most people won’t be able to adapt so we’re looking at “adapt or perish.” Given the choice I think most people would choose to evolve rather than continuing down this road of “business as usual” which will lead to recession for while America lasts. It’s like how we created the housing bubble. It didn’t happen by accident. It was created by government and bank policy. Things have to change otherwise we’ll just create other bubbles in the future that eventually burst.
