re: #335 darthstar

I get four or five calls a week from recruiters. They’re not bad resources, and having lunch with one is often a great way to get yourself known to people hiring. Recruiters are sales people selling shit they’ve never seen, for the most part. If they call a company and say, “I’ve got a candidate and this guy took the time to hunt me down so I’d know who I was representing” it goes a lot further than “Here’s a resume of a great candidate I found.”

But it means taking the time to schmooze with people who may not be able to help you immediately (best to think of it as an investment of your time). I send one recruiter who got me into two different jobs a six-pack of beer every Xmas -even though I haven’t used him in seven years.

I get 4 or 5 calls A DAY from recruiters. I am beginning to think of them as spammers, but I will only work with local recruiters and I already know who the top contracting agencies are. I have stated in my Monster and Dice profiles PLEASE DO NOT CALL WITH OUT OF TOWN OPPORTUNITIES and they still waste my time and theirs.
