I don’t think this reference is intentional on the part of the GOP there, but ‘the Beast’ and ‘Starve the Beast’ is language that’s been taken over by neo-confederates, anti-gubbmint types, white supremacist and separatists, and Christian Identity folks, and many other scattered evil nutcase groups about the US govt— the type of people who think Social Security numbers are the ‘Mark of the Beast’ and the US govt is the Antichrist. Assorted lunatics living ‘off the grid’. For people with that kind of ideology, this exhortation to ‘live free or die’ is frighteningly literal.

Bad times.

The capitalization of ‘Beast’ is there as a dog whistle for somebody…
