It works that way in Alabama, though the power of the AEA contract is exaggerated. It doesn’t mean the Art or PE (Hah!) Department won’t be eliminated. It governs who loses a job first. It cost our HS a lot of court fees to get rid of a teacher who had lost it. That was mostly the inept administrators’ fault.

Interesting. Alabama is the last place I thought tenure would exist for grade school teachers.
