Psychiatry is subject to being abused as a social engineering tool of the political establishment or as a control technique for suppression of various types of behaviour.
In this vein, one of the most convenient and effective ways to discredit an opponent’s point of view is to label the person as crazy or whacko, or to characterize their positions as sick or deranged. This technique avoids the need to deal with the merits of the argument and dispenses with the usual niceties of treating our opponents with respect and civility.
IMO the rush to label political positions as BDS and ODS are examples of this kind of behaviour. Surely it is better in the long run to try to take the time to defeat extreme positions by arguing them on their merits without engaging in amateur psychiatry.
And yes, I know this sounds preachy and is easier said than done.
