Acts that are monstrous should be judged as monstrous, and criticized. The Russians are not to be trusted to either confine their efforts to those who are really guilty, nor are they to be trusted to actually resolve the conflict. Chechnyan rebels attacking once in awhile is very good for Russia if what Russia wants is more civilian support for occupying Chechnya.

This is not like Israel/Palestine, where one of the actors is clearly operating on a superior ethical plane. This is Russia, and we enable them at our literal peril.
