Snark aside, and when there’s a humanitarian crisis anywhere in the world - including here in the US along its thousands of miles of coasts, a nuclear carrier can prove to be extremely useful in handling rescue and relief efforts (such as in Japan currently).

Oh, and they provide quite a few well paying jobs to the shipyards that build and maintain them.

Technically, we don’t need a nuclear class aircraft carrier to provide bottled water for the people of Japan. That is in effect justifying that use in reverse. Warships aren’t really designed for humanitarian relief but are used as such to maintain an international public image.
