Right, the taxation being done from across the pond. I think they had legitimate concerns. I actually was not aware of the fears about Parliament banning slavery in the British empire.

The Somerset v Stewart decision was rendered in 1772. The idea that slavery had no basis in English or Welsh common law worried a lot of slave owners in the colonies. It wasn’t something that got a lot of publicity in history classes, but it was very much real.
