If they’re disabled, as many could be, Medicare and/or Medcaid. And the care would probably be better than what they could get in the prison system which probably contributed to their ill health.
Plus, just being out of a cage would improve their chances of staying alive.
Prison should be rehabilitative, not cost you your life, esp for non-violent offenses.
I agree, but the poster seemed to be making about point about economics and tax-payer dollars. Releasing them will not save tax payer dollars —only under one particular line item in the overall budget —that of the prison system. It will increase total costs in a different or many different lines of the budget.
