Speaking of which - and switching the topic somewhat - I always wondered at the fact that the elites saw religion as more of a national-social function, hence easily switching religions in order to marry the foreign royalty. I mean, back then there was none of this happy-go-lucky “we’re all Christians, just with different rites” attitude, if you’re not of my sect, you’re a hell-bound heretic. And yet…
