He may be a moonbat for sure. But that doesn’t mean his statement is to be dismissed:

“I don’t see where reaching out to the tea party people helps. That’s the fringe of the far right,” he said. “They need to reach out to the decline-to-state voters in the middle.”

Not all those at the Tea Parties are nuts. It might well be a viable strategy to see if you can weans some of those attending off the crazy and get them behind sane candidates. It’s no substitute for outreach to the center, but the two tactics could work side-by-side to build a viable coalition.
