re: #303 Locker

What benefits. I’m in a long term non-monogamous relationship and I don’t feel that I’m missing out on something that I would be getting if the only thing to change were monogamy. Just asking.

Well, do you have children? Do you two raise them together, each knowing they’re yours? That’s the biological foundation of monogamous relations. They are an adaptation to the human necessity for prolonged parental care. Our brains are so big and complicated that first of all the mother cannot bring forth an infant as developed as say a foal is, ready to walk. And then a long stretch of education is required, because making a living by your wits is tougher than lowering the muzzle and grazing.

Can you count on your partner? Absolutely? With money, secrets, other men/women, you name it? Can she count on you? Monogamous partners, if it’s done right, have each others’ backs.

You will perhaps be thinking that that’s impossible. Well, now you know what you’re missing.
