It looks like the Dems will end up with 56 seats in the Senate, counting 2 “independents” who it is expected will caucus with them most of the time.

That will keep the Senate from doing anything stupid, but it will be difficult for Obama to get anything truly innovative passed through Congress. With John the Orange still ruling Congress and a not-filibuster proof majority in the Senate, I expect the next few years to be as unproductive out of DC as the past couple.

On the plus side, it also means fewer Republicans have to be convinced to cross the aisle in order to break filibusters. And it also means Reid will have no problem reforming the filibuster come January.
