And the bizarre thing is that Israel and Iran do have a whole lot more in common than either would care to admit being minority populations in the region (Shi’a are a majority in Iran, but minority in Middle East; Jews are a majority in Israel, but minority elsewhere); the persecution complex runs deep, both have long and storied histories, and there’s a secret history of the two countries working together (see Iran-Contra). Detente between US and Iran would actually improve matters between Israel and Iran, especially as it relates to Hizbullah, Lebanon, Syria, and could lead to improved border security at a minimum and normalization of relations down the road (even if the state of war continues - at least they’d all be talking).
