It’s far more complex than that. He was never going to reach the willing fox-news brain-slug victims, but through his futile and quixotic quest to “work with” a psychopathic GOP congress, he left other voters disillusioned (like someone else I know, who said things like “Why didn’t he fight harder for Merrick Garland?”)

In many ways, it’s the same kind of crap that sank John Kerry - the “he didn’t fight hard enough against GOP attacks, therefore the Democratic party is useless and we might as well not vote” mentality.
