You can never eat too much fruit. Peach picking sounds fun though. I’ve never done that myself but have enjoyed strawberry and blackberry picking in the past.

The thing with peaches is that if you pick them yourself you can get the really, really ripe ones. They simply can’t be picked that ripe and sold. Those things bruise if you look at them crosseyed, so you have to take them home very carefully and do something with them pretty quickly.

Peaches don’t ripen further after they are picked, in the sense that there is all the sugar in there that you’re ever going to get. They will soften, but they don’t really ripen, so for a perfect peach you really have to go to the orchard and wander around very gently pulling on peaches. If they come away from the branch with slight pressure, they’re completely ripe.

Sadly, it’s a bit of a drive from my house, to get to where they grow them, but my daughter’s house is a bit over half way to the orchards, so it was a fun and reasonable thing to do with her.
