Do you really think corporations will do the right thing when no one is looking? (the definition of integrity, btw) There HAVE to be enforceable rules and regulations on these entities or we all pay the price for it. When you go and interview for a job at Wal-Mart they also include info on how to apply for food stamps and other forms of aid because they refuse to pay their employees a living wage. Who pays for that? We all do. They get tax breaks and incentives, they pay hardly any federal taxes and they suck money from taxpayer funded programs. Sure, they’re changing their tune now, but only because of outside pressure and exposure of how they operate. There should be a bottom line allowed by law or there won’t BE a bottom line to protect workers. Companies of all stripes have proven this over and over and over. From worker’s rights to environmental violations, to tax avoidance schemes and manipulating the laws, they can’t be trusted unless they are forced to. NO ONE should work a 40 hour week and not be able to afford food, clothing, shelter, transportation and medical care. We used to have that, it’s gone now and it’s wrong.
