Yeah, but that would hit everyone. And that’s not quite what killed Tran-Atlantic Shipping in the 30’s.

It was a combination of the Great Depression, the racist Immigration restrictions, and the new American Tariffs during that time.

It also killed most other lines. Cunard itself was merged with White Star in 1935, and Cunard still has some Titanic obligations on the books, at least the books I got on the Titanic in the late 90s.
