Women’s stockings are graded by “denier”—and, in consequence, whenever I see the word “denier,” even when used in the term “Holocaust denier,” it recalls that other use of the word for a fleeting second.

Recalling also that famous commercial of the 1960s in which football player Joe Namath posed in pantyhose, I have a mental image of Pat Buchanan wearing a nice control-top girdle and stockings—a blowsy McLaughlin-group travesty of Marlene Dietrich in The Blue Angel, or that drag character in Visconti’s The Damned—saying something about how comfortable he is in his Holocaust deniers.

With all due respect, I think that comment is hosed.
