“Hostess” was/is the name brand for the cupcakes, twinkies, etc.
“Wonder Bread” was/is the name brand for the breads.
Both were divisions of the Continental Baking Company.

In the midwest, their main rival was “Old Home”.
When I was about 8, the two companies got into a health war. Wonder Bread helped build strong bodies 8 ways, on their television commercial.

Old Home, of course, started producing commercials about building healthy bodies 9 ways.

Then Wonder Bread went to 10 ways, Old Home to 11, and Wonder Bread to 12 ways.

At that point, the war ended. My dad thought it was a joke.

Back then, Roman Meal bread was affordable and wonderful.
