I don’t think that the typical scientist is politically motivated first-and-foremost. Scientists are geeks. We enjoy the collection and analysis of data. I agree w/ SixDegrees, in that the main problem in this argument, and others re: scientific info, is media (and political) misunderstanding and misrepresenation of data into speculative conclusions.

AGW is a scientific trend. Scientists work for institutions. Institutions are by and large political. These institutions are typically universities. At the same time, scientists belong to a definable social group. People within such groups adhere to norms acceptable within that group and part of that norm is to advance and fund AGW research.
