We suffered a major setback on the road to energy-independence when Reagan was elected. We knew what we had to do in the 70’s, and even had solar-panels on the White-House as an example to us all. Then the Republicans won, oil became temporarily less expensive, and it was like everyone forgot our situation.

… and Reagan had the solar panels removed.
