And that’s a tacit admission that government spending creates jobs. Mind you, we’re talking about the kinds of jobs that GOPers prefer (military contractors) over those that Democrats generally prefer, but when those jobs include factory workers/manufacturing in their districts, they’re going to fight to extend the spending to preserve those jobs rather than see those facilities idled.

If that $180 million spending could create those X numbers of jobs, what could a significant portion more do when addressing construction of new modern infrastructure or rehab/overhaul of existing infrastructure. And at the other side, everyone needs to work on getting the costs of such construction down so that it is comparable to European or Japanese construction for the same kind/level of engineering. There’s no reason that comparable projects in the US cost more than those elsewhere in the world. And it’s not as though we can’t get projects done in a reasonable time and at a reasonable cost. It’s just the exception - not the rule.
