re: #332 Jay C

I doubt it: if Kavanaugh’s nomination gets voted down by the full Senate (AFAIK, the only way it can be derailed: it’s been, IIRC, reported out positively - 11-10 vote on party lines, of course- by the Judiciary Committee), the chances that any replacement candidate King Orangeanus might be able to conjure up from (or be supplied by) the Federalist Society wishlist of hacks in any time to be of use before the new session of Congress in January are pretty low. Near-zero, IMO. Mitch McConnell is a pretty effective Leader in the Senate, but if he can’t hold his (slim) Majority together to push through a Super-Approved Stellar Jurist nominee like Brett Kavanaugh before the elections, it’s hard to see how he would (or could) do squat to “ram through” another one after: especially if facing Minority status come January 3 (?)….

If Kavanaugh’s name is withdrawn this week, Trump can name a new nominee next week, he can do meet and greets in early October, they can bring him before the Committee Mid-November and have a vote before Christmas, ESPECIALLY if they face minority status come January because if that’s the case their opportunity to stack the Court will be gone.
