This is actually good for us. Take an analogy: an immune system needs challenges to tune it. An animal will cope with a severe stress much better if it’s been subjected to a tolerable level of the same stress earlier.

And we won’t be defenseless against attacks in the same vein, by radically more capable enemies, if we learn how to not be utterly stupid and vulnerable as a result of this mild challenge from the mildly capable.

I agree. The limited, if any damage from this “attack” could help it stand attacks by thieves.
