This. I’ve been arguing it repeatedly here - we are building and running far too many carrier battle groups. We do not need anywhere near as many as we have much less are building.

Quite aside from the number we actually need to keep in service, from an engineering perspective, it looks like we need to be building nuclear carriers at approximately the rate we do in order to preserve the industrial base and institutional knowledge necessary to build the damn things in the first place.

I think we blow more money than we need to on being Team America World Police, but there are other directions I’d look first for savings.
