re: #326 Kenneth

When asked who his favorite philosopher is Bush famously answered, “Jesus Christ”. Yes, he talked about Jesus, but he didn’t wear his faith on his sleave like Obama does.

On the other hand, Bush wasn’t subjected to people like Gaffney appearing on MSNBC speculating about whether he was sending sekrit signals to the Taliban (as Charles points out), nor was he the subject of editorials insinuating that he IS a muslim, like this article, nor was he subjected to endless and unfounded calls for his birth certificate.

Maybe to you it looks like Obama is overemphasizing his Christianity, but that’s likely because you’re not one of the people swayed by any of the unfounded rumours and fears in the first place. Unfortunately to others there is nothing he can do to overcome irrational fears that he’s a seekrit Muslim.

I don’t think he’s wearing his faith on his sleeve so much as he’s trying to defuse the irrational fears of others and head off smears like the ones Gaffney is pushing.

There are a lot of legitimate criticisms of Obama to be made. This isn’t one of them, in my opinion.
