You can look at the AP photo, which is full sized and also high quality.
I can’t see any blood on the knife.

Blood wouldn’t necessarilly appear on a steel (dark bladed) knife as bright red, especially if after inserting the knife into the soldier it was pulled out not only through the skin, but through the soldiers clothing wiping off the “wettest” blood on the knife
