Yeah, this was my thought, If you want to make it a humanitarian argument for it, that is all well and good, but if someone is old or disabled and have been in prison for a while they are probably going to be using medicare/medicaid, foodstamps, public or subsidized housing. Certainly won’t save any money unless there is someone taking responsibility for them on the outside.

It is also concerning that someone who has been in prison for many years is very likely to be without any family or support system outside. The person is also likely to lack self-discipline that would be required to take meds, make appointments, etc. For an elderly person with disabilities/health problems it could be a death sentence.
